Filipinos, Ukrainian kidnapped offshore Bakassi :

30 gunmen in two speedboats attacked the oil supply vessel MV Sil Tide, operated by Tidewater, under contract to Pecten Cameroon, in the early hours of 14 March, 14 km off the coast of Bakassi, kidnapping 3 Filipinos and 1 Ukrainian.

Hostages Freed:

According to officials of the Philippine Embassay the 3 Filipino and 1 Ukrainian hostages were released later the same day.

Alleged Chevron pipeline attack:

A Chevron pipeline, running from Makaraba Otunana/Abiteye flow stations at Makaraba and Kokodiagbene Area of Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri, Delta was vandalized on March 14th, causing the loss of 75,000 barrels/day according to Punch newspaper, no comments from Chevron.

JTF declares MEND leader wanted:

JTF declared wanted Woki Godswill Ibralayu, AKA Kitikata, accusing him of an armed attack on a commercial boat, Nembe Waterways in Bayelsa State on Friday 13 March.

Militants attempt attack on flow station:

The JTF by Colonel Rabe Abubakar, said armed men attacked a flow station at Nembe in Baylesa State, 16 March, 4:00hrs. The JTF repelled the attack.

Chevron confirm pipeline attack:

Chevron in a statement confirmed a breach on its 16-inch Makaraba-Utonana pipeline, 01:15 hours, Friday March 13, resulting in shut in of 11,500 bpd from its Makaraba Platform in Delta State.

Brit hostage sends letter home:

Matthew Maguire, held by MEND since 9 September 2008 has written a letter to his family, including pictures of him and Robin Hughes.

Judges say no to pay cut:

In a letter to the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Chief Justice of Nigeria Idris Kutigi said judges opposed to the proposed slash in salaries because they are not political office holders.

Attempts to curb measles spread from Cameroon:

Health Minister Babatunde Osotimehin said Nigeria had purchased 11 million doses of measles vaccines in anticipation of an outbreak of measles in Cameroon.

Student gets jail for 419 love scam:

A Nigerian undergraduate, Lawal Adekunle Nurudeen, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for obtaining $47,000 from an Australian woman in a 419 internet scam.

Nigeria rebranded:

Nigeria launched a re-branding campaign to improve its battered international image for corruption and crime. The government approved 150 million naira ($1 million) for the project.

French court upholds ex-minister’s conviction:

A French appeals court today fined former Nigerian oil minister Dan Etete 8 million euros but lifted his three-year prison sentence.

Militants ‘rape women’:

A victim of an attack on Saturday whereby gunmen hijacked two passenger boats travelling from Bonny Island to Port Harcourt told the BBC how gunmen had raped pregnant women.

CBN moves to ease exchange rate disparity:

The CB, by Governor Chukwuma Soludo said Tuesday it will increase U.S. dollar supply to bureaux de change in an effort to reduce the sharp disparity between its official exchange rate and the black market.

Related: CBN to compensate clients of failed banks:

CBN will pay 12.1 billion naira ($81.8 million) to compensate depositors of two failed banks, Fortune International Bank Plc and Triumph Merchant Bank Plc.

Oil production outages:

According to sources Nigeria has about 606,500 barrels/day of oil shut in due to sabotage to oil facilities. The outage volume represents about 25% of the installed output capacity of around 3 million bpd.

Community threatens Total over gas flare:

In a statement the Obite community in Egi area, Rivers s threatened a show down with Total over alleged failure of the oil firm to compensate those affected by its constant emission of dangerous and harmful gas into the air.

Military investigates alleged rape:

JTF by spokesman, Lt.-Col. Sagir Musa said it was investigating the reported rape of 5 women travelling along the Bonny Creek, Rivers when gunmen hijacked their boat March 15

Shell says investigation of pipeline damage report underway:

Punch newspaper cited military officials saying the pipeline to the Warri River oil pumping station was attacked early 18 March with dynamite at Ugbodede, near Warri, forcing Shell to shut the station. Shell said it was investigating the reports.

US probes Shell over bribes:

Shell said yesterday that the Securities and Exchange Commission and the US Department of Justice have commenced probing it for alleged violations of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act related to alleged payments made to the Nigerian Customs Services.

Gas Project - 15 firms shortlisted:

The FG selected 15 international energy companies as potential investors in projects to develop the nation’s natural-gas reserves, Petroleum Minister of State Odein Ajumogobia said today.

Hostage watch:

Held:  Matthew McGuire and Robin Hughes were abducted on 9 September 2008 from the HD Blue Ocean. Today marks Day 194 in captivity for these men.

Also held: Lebanese national Jimmi Rahjah, Manager of Samchase Construction Company working on the Oloto road, Okitipupa, Ondo state was kidnapped on 11 February from the company site.

Also held: a Lebanese national, employed by Elite Construction Company, kidnapped on March 4, at Sabagria in Kolokuma/Opkuma Local Government Area, Bayelsa state.
