MEND claim 3 attacks on Shell:  MEND said on Sunday it had attacked Shell pipelines in Adamakiri and Kulu, Rivers State followed by  a claim to have attacked the offshore Shell Afremo field, between Bayelsa and Delta State.

Weapons in impounded plane ‘meant for militants’: The weaponary contained in the Ukrainian plane impounded in Kano last Wednesday  belonged to Nigerian militants according to the Army.

 Amnesty – who gets one?: Sahara reporters said to have obtained on the preliminary amnesty report in which, amongst other things, it is stated that not only the militants but also their financial backers could be granted amnesty.

G8 invites YRD: President YRD is formally invited to attend this year’s G-8 Summit of the world’s industrial nations holding in Italy, from July 8 to 10. 

Nigeria-Russia to sign industrial, oil & military agreement: Russian president Mr. Dmitry Medvedev will visit Nigeria to hold talks of possible Nuclear energy, Oil and military cooperation.

Nigeria open to foreign takeover of banks: The head of the Central Bank, Lamido Sanusi, said today that he was prepared to break with a decades-old ban on foreign takeovers of its banks.

 Panic in Port Harcourt: An intense gunbattle rocked Njemanze area of Diobu, Port Harcourt for several hours, Monday morning when police rescued Mr. Bala Hassan, kidnapped 19 June, from his kidnappers.

Army denies talks with militants: Monday the military denied earlier media reports that it is engaged in disarmament talks with the militants in the Niger Delta. 

 Amnesty announcement still expected: President Yar’Adua is due to announce details later this week, but what about the legality of the amnesty offer to the militants.

 Nigeria won’t free arms plane: According to a diplomatic source Nigeria refuses to release 7 Ukrainian crew members and a plane full of weapons and ammunition despite owner claims from Equatorial Guinea’s government.

 Related:  Containers with arms seized in Calabar: The Navy said to have seized two ships, MV Chinedu and MV Chinyere, in old Calabar Port, whilst still searching for the MV Chidinma, all reportedly carrying arms.

 First-Quarter revenue down on low oil income: The Ministery of Finance announced that the first-quarter revenue missed government targets by as much as 32%, amounting to N182.2 billion ($1.22 billion) owing to a decline in oil income.  

Five million Nigerians HIV+: The Institute of Human Virology estimated the number of people living with HIV in Nigeria at slightly lower than five million, saying that the South-south region had the current highest prevalence rate in the country.

Dokubo Asari arrested: Security operatives arrested leader of the NDPVF Mujahid Dokubo-Asari at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos on Tuesday night upon arrival from Germany.

Media say militants and FG meet over amnesty: Newswires reported a meeting between a FG delegation and representatives of senior militants leaders aimed at building the peace process.

Militants arrested for Agip attack: Security forces arrested nine gunmen suspected to be involved in last week’s Nembe creek, Bayelsa, pipeline attack that forced Agip to halt some oil output.

 MEND respond: Just before publishing this CB, Mend issued a statement reacting on the three stories hereabove.

Russia and Nigeria to sign gas and nuclear deals: Russia and Nigeria were to sign a series of deals including a joint venture agreement on gas exploration with Gazprom and a nuclear energy pact during the Russian president’s visit to Nigeria on Wednesday

 Spain eyes oil and gas sectors: On Tuesday YRD met with Spain’s Prime Minister Jose Luis Zapatero discussing amongst others a seat for Nigeria in the UNSC.

MEND claim another assault on Shell: MEND, in a statement addressed to Medvedev, said to have attack the Shell Bill/Krakama pipeline, Rivers State Thursday at about 00.25 hrs.

Medvedev, MEND and millions of $$’s: MEND’s message to Medvedev and Russia’s huge investment plans.

Russia signs nuclear deal: Russia is also negotiating to build a nuclear power plant in Nigeria.  The broad agreement allows for the construction of a nuclear station and a research reactor. 

Oil production takes a beating: Oil firms yesterday informed the National Assembly on operations had been affected by militants attacks since the military offensive launched mid-May. 

 YRD to offer amnesty today: President YRD was expected to propose a new 60-day amnesty programme for militants on Thursday.

 Asari released: President YRD explained that Asari was not arrested but invited for a debriefing by security agents on return from Germany.

MEND strike Shell – again!: MEND in a statement said to have blown up the 2nd remaining wellhead of the Shell Afremo offshore field, Delta State.

 Amnesty announced at last: President YRD finally announced the terms of his 60 day amnesty for militants setting down conditions to be by the participants.

NNPC deny crude oil shortfall: NNPC denied media reports that it would run out of fuel stock and crude supply to Nigerian refineries.
